Dear Parents,

Reading: I am sending home Spelling List #9 today so your child can begin studying. The test will be taken Thursday, November 3rd. Don’t forget our October Book Celebration is on Halloween, the 31st. We have read almost every Nursery Rhyme on the planet and many of the classic Fairy Tales. Your child may dress up as any character from any Nursery Rhyme or Fairy Tale they have read or you have read to them. We will be watching a cartoon version of the Wizard of Oz on Monday in the morning. Our Party Book Celebration party will be from 1:30-2:30.

Reading: There is a “Spelling Bee” list of words in your child’s Communication Folder today. The Spelling Bee will be on Friday May 20th in the afternoon. The kids will be given the word in a sentence. They will have to say it, spell it, then say it again. We are reading Junie B. Jones Aloha-ha this week.

April 8th Newletter

Dear Parents,

Reading: I am sending home Spelling List #25 today so your child can begin studying. The test will be on Thursday, April 14th. This week we have been reading Junie B. Jones Shipwrecked. I am so impressed with how well this class reads!

Math: We have been working on second grade standards in math on our Concept Board. We have also been doing second grade Drops in the Bucket quite successfully. : )

March 23rd Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Reading: This week we have been reading Junie B. Jones One Man Band. Ask your child to summarize it for you. I am very pleased with the reading growth I have seen this year!

Math: We have been learning how to tell time to 5 minute increments on math. Ask your child often to tell you what time it is. Keep up the good work with addition and subtraction flash cards. I can tell a difference at school.

March 11th Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Reading: I am sending home Spelling List #23 today so your child can begin studying. The test will be on Thursday, March 17th. This week we have been reading Junie B. Jones Cheater Pants. Check out the 2nd grade Drops in the Bucket your 1st grader is bringing home today. Most of the students are doing them all on their own

Math: We have been learning how to tell time to 5 minute increments on math. Ask your child often to tell you what time it is. Keep up the good work with addition and subtraction flash cards. I can tell a difference at school.

Feb. 25th Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Reading: I am sending home Spelling List #21 today so your child can begin studying. The test will be on Thursday, March 3rd. This week we have been reading Junie B. Jones Toothless Wonder. The WPM goal at the end of 1st grade is 53 WPM. Reading homework is the most important homework your 1st grader will ever do. Please make this a priority at home. A letter will be in your child’s folder today if they are behind in reading fluency.
